Why I Use Perplexity More Than Any Other AI Tool

Why Perplexity is my go-to tool for smarter searches and AI-driven content creation.

I’ve talked about Perplexity before, but it fits so well in this week’s theme of managing AI costs.

And you’ve probably heard people talk about Perplexity, but it just gets lost in the AI noise.

Let me explain why I love it, how I use it and when I DON’T use it.

Perplexity is a search engine that is truly meant to replace Google, except:

  • No ads.

  • Results are summarized by AI.

  • Everything in the summary is footnoted with source links.

For $20/month you get 300 “Pro” searches per day (which is the premium AI). And that’s more than sufficient for most people.

Why I love Perplexity

But it’s not just a search engine, it’s a true LLM—it works just like ChatGPT.

You can create content, proofread, upload PDFs and images . . . all the cool stuff you can do with ChatGPT.

Personally, I use Perplexity about 90% of my day for web searches, general questions, research, coding questions and some content creation.

Only if I don’t get what I want from Perplexity, then I fall back to ChatGPT.

Why do I still use Google 10% of my day?

Perplexity loves to summarize EVERYTHING.

Suppose I want to go to my Amazon Orders page.

If you search for “Amazon Orders” on Perplexity — you get this, which tells you ABOUT Amazon orders.

If I search Google, the first link is exactly what I want.

I use Google when:

  • I know exactly where I want to go, but I don’t know the URL

  • I don’t need an AI summarization.

  • I don’t need the history of the company.

  • I just want the link to the Amazon Orders page.

But that’s a small nit. It’s become second-nature to use the appropriate search engine for what I need.
