I’m 52 and JUST old enough to have used a typewriter in high school.

In my sophomore year, we learned how to write a “term paper.” (I don’t know if that term is still used).

For our research, we had to buy a stack of 3×5 cards for our research notes (or 4×6 cards for the over-achievers).

We had to categorize and label the cards and organize them, blah, blah, blah.

It was tedious and painfully slow.

I wish we had Google NotebookLM.

If you haven’t used it yet, you need to spend a few minutes playing with it.

It’s an AI-version of the 3×5 cards.

And it’s FREE.

You simply create a new notebook and then upload PDFs, Google Docs, paste content from other places, etc.

And then you can use prompts on any of the content.

When you get back responses you want to keep, you can save them as notes and/or add them to the source content.

It’s kinda like building your own custom LLM that expands over time.

But the REALLY cool feature is the audio overview.

It will generate a “podcast” where two hosts will discuss your content—you can even give the audio overview a custom prompt.

EVEN MORE . . . You can even “join” the podcast to interact with the hosts.

What are good use cases for NotebookLM?

• Building out a business plan

• Designing a marketing strategy

• Competitor research

• Keeping track of individual clients

Like all AI tools, it’s not a one-size-fits-all.

I wouldn’t use it for everything, but it’s a great tool if you need a centralized knowledge base for individual projects.
