How the Perfectionism Tax Is Inflating Your AI Bill

Chasing perfect AI outputs? It’s costing you time, money, and efficiency—here’s how to stop overpaying.

Knowing that my readers are business owners, I have no doubt that I’m not the only one paralyzed by perfectionism.

Over a decade ago I stumbled onto "The Cult of Done Manifesto.”

I have prominently hung this on every cubicle/office wall I’ve ever worked in.

It’s a very simple guide to realizing the insanity of perfectionism.

And it’s more relevant than ever.

I have spent HOURS in ChatGPT/Claude churning over the same content.

Over and over and over and reworking and re-editing and revising and reworking.

Each one of those edits is a cost—both time and $$$.

And let’s face it — people don’t read content that deeply.

And so I force myself to go back to the Manifesto:

Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.

Perfection is an A+.

AI often gives you a C+ or a straight Bsometimes an A-.

Personally, I’m learning to be content with a B-.

A ChatGPT B- is pretty damn good for most social media content and emails.

Maybe you want to elevate sales copy to an A-.

Remember that every iteration of AI costs $$$.

You can spend a lot of time and money churning those B- outputs into A outputs . . .

In the end, we need to ask . . . was an extra $20/month worth it for something that most people just skimmed . . .
