One of my favorite movies of all time is “All the President’s Men.”

I watch it at least once a year and I love the book.

If you’ve not seen it, it stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as “Woodward and Bernstein,” the Washington Post journalists who investigated the Nixon Watergate scandal.

Eventually, they end up at the Library of Congress, where they want to find out who checked out books related to Senator Ted Kennedy.

This was the early 1970s, so everything was on paper—no quick searches.

They literally had to comb through THOUSANDS of checkout slips one by one.

But this was the life of a journalist before computers.

It wasn’t like this all the time, but sometimes you had to GO DEEP.

We all use AI for common tasks like content creation, proofreading, etc.

But sometimes we need AI to “go deep” for a solution.

This is where the new Perplexity Deep Research comes into play.

We’ve talked about the reasoning models with DeepSeek and OpenAI-o1.

This is different and better.

Deep Research employs a proprietary framework called test time compute (TTC) expansion, which enables systematic exploration of complex topics. The system:

1. Dissects queries into subcomponents

2. Performs dozens of web searches

3. Evaluates hundreds of sources

4. Synthesizes findings through probabilistic reasoning models

What does this mean?

It can take up to FIVE MINUTES to get an answer, but it GOES DEEP.

Here’s a example:

I’ve actually been using this with my new AI Assistant.

Specifically, I’m using it for recommendations on how to grow the business and map out the next 6-12 months.

The results are absolutely fantastic.

You get amazing detail in a PDF-ready report format.

But there are limits . . .

Free users are limited to 5 Deep Research queries per day.

Pro subscribers ($20 monthly or $200 annually) have access to 500 Deep Research queries per month.

Until now, the only Deep Research option has been OpenAI's Deep Research, which requires a ChatGPT Pro subscription ($200 monthly) with a limit of 100 queries per month and a 20-minute response time.

Once again, Perplexity continues to raise the bar on cost and massive value.
