If you ask me today, what is your favorite AI model? . . .

I would have said hands-down: Claude Sonnet 3.5.

Why?

It gives me what I need most of the time right away.

I feel like I don’t have to do a lot of back-and-forth to get the results I need.

That’s a really vague answer, but all of this stuff can be so subjective.

Imagine my excitement yesterday when Claude announced their new Sonnet 3.7, which is the FIRST hybrid model. (OpenAI already announced GPT 5 was going to be a hybrid model, so Claude beat them to the punch.)

What is a hybrid model?

It simply combines a reasoning model with a “standard” model into one model.

During a single conversation, you can switch back and forth between “quick” AI responses and “longer” thinking mode.

And here’s where it gets really cool . . . with their API, you can actually decide how long you want Claude Sonnet to “think” about your prompt.

I want you to “think” about this problem for the next 6 hours.

Right now, most thinking/research models run for a minute or two.

Why only a couple of minutes?

This is going to be a really important feature in the next evolution of AI models.

If I’m willing to pay for it, there’s no reason to "stop thinking” until I say so.

I’ll be playing with this today, and as you can imagine, I’ll write about my thoughts in the next couple weeks when I get a good feel for how I like it.
