Yesterday I built my own DeepSeek cloud server in about 15 minutes.

Most of that time was spent waiting for the DeepSeek download to finish.

It REALLY is THAT easy to set up your own LLM in the cloud.

More about that later.

Let’s talk about WHY you would want to run your own LLM in the cloud:

• You don’t want to rely on your own hardware and network connection for a business.
  This is kinda obvious for most of us, but you could go out and buy your own commodity hardware to run an LLM.
  
  If it runs out of disk space, loses a power supply (which mine have), etc., you’re on the hook.

• AI hardware is pricey.
  You’re gonna need at least 32-64GB RAM to run the minimum LLM models (even with DeepSeek).
  
  If you want to run a non-DeepSeek LLM, you’re gonna need GPUs. They ain’t cheap, but there are cost-effective cloud solutions.

• Cloud servers are pay-as-you-go—you can turn them off and on.
  If you only need your LLM while you’re working, you can literally turn it off when you’re not using it.
  
  You’re only paying when you use it.
  

• Monthly costs are much more predictable and manageable.
  Even though you’re paying-as-you-go, you’re not paying per token.
  
  If it costs 35 cents per hour, that’s your predictable cost. If you don’t need it for a full workday, it can be even cheaper if you turn it off throughout the day.
